How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Fire Safety Advisor
    Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
    Reports To: Fire Safety Lead / Health & Safety Manager
    Working Pattern: Full‑time, site‑based

    Role Overview
    The Fire Safety Advisor will play a critical role in supporting the safe construction of a Nuclear Power Station in Somerset. The role ensures that all fire safety standards, protocols, and legal requirements are met across the site, working closely with contractors, safety teams, and operational personnel. The Fire Safety Advisor will provide technical guidance, conduct inspections, support investigations, and help embed a strong fire‑safety culture throughout the project.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure compliance with relevant fire safety legislation and site standards.
    Identify fire hazards, recommend controls, and maintain all fire‑safety documentation.
    Carry out scheduled and reactive fire‑safety inspections across site areas and temporary structures.
    Monitor hot‑work operations and ensure correct permit processes are followed.
    Check fire‑fighting equipment, alarms, and escape routes for correct installation and functionality.
    Report non‑compliance issues and drive corrective actions to completion.
    Deliver fire‑safety inductions, toolbox talks, and support fire marshals with training and competency checks.
    Promote positive fire‑safety behaviours and culture across the site.
    Assist in developing, testing, and reviewing emergency response plans.
    Participate in evacuation drills, exercises, and multi‑agency emergency scenarios.
    Respond to fire alarms, incidents, and near‑misses; secure scenes and gather evidence.
    Produce investigation reports detailing findings, root causes, and recommendations.
    Collaborate with construction teams, H&S advisors, engineers, and the Fire Safety Lead.
    Support design reviews and method statements to embed fire safety early in planning.
    Attend coordination meetings, H&S briefings, and safety committees.

    Skills & Experience Required
    Essential

    NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (or equivalent fire‑specific qualification).
    Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation and construction‑phase fire safety.
    Experience working in large, high‑risk environments (construction, industrial, energy, nuclear, or similar).
    Ability to conduct fire risk assessments and write clear, structured reports.
    Strong communication and influencing skills with people at all levels.
    Ability to work under pressure and make sound, risk‑based decisions.Desirable

    Experience on major infrastructure projects
    Knowledge of nuclear‑site safety protocols or the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
    Fire investigation training (e.g., Fire Marshal Instructor, Fire Warden Instructor).
    Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or working toward it.
