How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of civil engineering works across Environment Agency frameworks, with a strong focus on flood defence and structural projects. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, technical understanding, and the ability to drive programmes safely and efficiently on site.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Manage day-to-day site operations on flood defence and structural schemes (e.g. embankments, flood walls, culverts, pumping stations, reinforced concrete structures)
    - Ensure full compliance with Environment Agency standards, specifications, and reporting requirements
    - Lead and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel
    - Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance at all times
    - Deliver works to programme, budget, and quality expectations
    - Produce and review RAMS, ITPs, and site documentation
    - Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and project teams, providing regular progress updates
    - Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and audits

    Requirements

    - Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering
    - Strong background in Environment Agency frameworks and flood defence schemes
    - Experience delivering structural works (RC structures, steelwork, hydraulic structures)
    - SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold), and First Aid (essential)
    - Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (preferred)
    - Excellent communication and organisational skills
    - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

    Desirable

    - HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
    - Experience with NEC contracts
    - Knowledge of environmental best practices and sustainability in construction
