    Job description

Are you an experienced Health and Safety Advisor or Manager with experience working on heavy civils projects in the rail industry?

Are you ready to step up into a role with more autonomy?

Location: East Kilbride + hybrid working + travel around Scotland
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE + car or car allowance (10% of salary)

    Role and Responsibilities:
You will be joining a dynamic specialist contractor at the forefront of the UK's rail infrastructure scene. The company is a key player in delivering complex heavy civils projects, including bridges, stations, and steel structures, and is also expanding into new areas like major electrical upgrades and lift shaft installations.

As the new Health and Safety Manager, you will operate in a hybrid role, covering sites across Scotland. Your week will be a flexible mix of working from home for two days and spending three days out on project sites. While you will be a key part of the wider safety team, this position does not involve line management, allowing you to dedicate your expertise to the practical application of health and safety on the ground.

    Benefits:
·Hybrid/electric car with fuel card or a 10% car allowance with mileage paid
    ·Health Shield cashback plan
·25 days holiday, plus the option to buy 5 additional days of leave after one year of service.
    ·Pension - 4%
    ·Death in service

    Key Responsibilities:
·Strategic Advice & Leadership: Provide technical guidance to ensure all operations comply with legislation and best practices. Lead safety initiatives and represent the company in HSQE meetings.
·Performance Monitoring & Incident Management: Conduct site inspections, audits, and incident investigations. Manage HSQE KPIs and use data-driven insights for improvements.
·Training & Competence: Develop and deliver high-impact safety training sessions, including toolbox talks and policy updates.
·Systems & Compliance: Assist in developing ISO-aligned systems, risk assessments, and safe systems of work. Lead regional teams through accreditation assessments (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
·Continuous Improvement: Identify SMART improvement opportunities, maintaining up-to-date knowledge on health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation.

    What You'll Need:
·Minimum 2-3 years of Health and Safety experience in the rail sector, preferably on heavy civils projects.
·NEBOSH General Certificate (essential) and Construction Certificate (preferred).
·Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to various sites and attend monthly meetings in Chorley.
    ·CISRS Scaffold Inspection (preferred)

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a forward-thinking company where you can make a real impact. If you are ready to take on a new challenge, get in touch with Brooke Stell at Carrington West today to find out more.
