How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Field Service Technician

    Location: The role is predominantly field-based, with duties carried out at client premises across the UK. This will involve significant travel and some overnight stays. A small proportion of time may be spent at Firemain Engineering’s Head Office in St Helens.

    Salary: £36,000 - £45,000 depending on experience

    Vacancy Type: Permanent

    Working Hours: Monday – Friday 40 hours per week

    Job Description

    The Field Service Technician plays a critical role in supporting our customers by carrying out on-site servicing, maintenance and repair of fire-fighting equipment at client premises. This is a customer-facing role requiring a high level of professionalism, technical competence and flexibility.

    You will represent Firemain Engineering at all times while working on client sites, ensuring that all activities are carried out in full compliance with both company standards and client-specific policies, procedures and site rules.

    Key Responsibilities

    Attend client premises to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance on fire-fighting and associated engineering equipment.
    Commission and test equipment in line with technical specifications and customer requirements.
    Carry out fault-finding across water-based fire suppression equipment in mechanical and electrical systems.
    Ensure strict adherence to client health, safety, security and operational policies and procedures while on site.
    Act as a professional representative of Firemain Engineering, maintaining positive working relationships with clients and stakeholders at all times.
    Complete all required documentation accurately, including service reports, job records and compliance paperwork.
    Liaise with internal teams to provide feedback from site visits and support continuous improvement.
    Ensure tools, equipment and company assets are used safely and maintained appropriately.
    Travel to customer sites across the UK, with overnight stays as required.
    Essential

    Proven experience in a field-based or customer-facing engineering role.
    Strong hands-on fault-finding and maintenance skills.
    Ability to work independently.
    Communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients.
    Strong understanding of health & safety requirements, including working to site-specific rules.
    Full UK Driving Licence (maximum of three points).
    Desirable

    Proven mechanical experience.
    Proven electrical experience.
    Experience working with water-based fire protection systems.
    Experience with site work – inductions / permits / shut downs etc.
    Experience with water pumps.
    Experience with actuated valves.
