How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support a leading groundworks contractor on a portfolio of commercial construction projects. This is a long-term freelance opportunity with a strong pipeline of secured work, offering stability and the chance to be involved in technically challenging and high-value schemes.

This role is suited to a highly competent engineer with a strong background in commercial groundworks, who can operate independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and health & safety compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    - Carrying out setting out and surveying duties across all stages of commercial groundworks packages
    - Accurate installation, checking, and QA of holding down bolts to ensure alignment with structural steel requirements
    - Full responsibility for setting out and overseeing drainage works, including foul, surface water, and attenuation systems
    - Managing and supervising concrete works, including foundations, pile caps, ground beams, slabs, and external hard standings
    - Interpreting and working from technical drawings, specifications, and site documentation
    - Producing and maintaining accurate site records, as-built surveys, and QA documentation
    - Coordinating with site managers, subcontractors, and other engineering staff to ensure smooth project delivery
    - Ensuring all works are carried out in line with health & safety regulations and company procedures
    - Identifying and resolving technical issues on-site proactively

    Requirements:

    - Demonstrable experience working as a Site Engineer within commercial groundworks environments
    - Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems, concrete structures, and structural interfaces (e.g., holding down bolts)
    - Proficient in the use of surveying equipment such as Leica or Trimble GPS/Total Stations
    - Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
    - Strong organisational and communication skills
    - CSCS card (essential)
    - SMSTS/SSSTS (advantageous but not essential)
    - Own kit preferred, but can be provided if required

    What’s on Offer:

    - Long-term freelance contract with continuity of work across multiple projects
    - Competitive day rate, dependent on experience
    - Engagement outside IR35, offering greater flexibility
    - Opportunity to work with a reputable contractor on large-scale commercial developments
    - Supportive site teams and well-structured project environments
