How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Field Service Engineer – Automated Gates & Barriers
    📍 Reading and surrounding areas
    💰 £35,000 – £40,000 + Overtime + Company Van

    Our client is a well-established provider of automated access solutions, specialising in the installation, maintenance, and repair of gates, barriers, and access control systems. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to join their team, covering the Reading region and surrounding areas.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer with electro-mechanical experience who enjoys working in the field and delivering high-quality service to customers.

    The Role

    As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the servicing, fault-finding, and repair of a range of automated gate and barrier systems. You will work independently across customer sites, ensuring systems are operating safely and efficiently.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of automated gates and barrier systems

    * Diagnose and resolve electro-mechanical faults on-site

    * Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance

    * Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety standards

    * Provide excellent customer service and technical support to clients

    * Accurately complete service reports and documentation

    * Participate in an overtime and on-call rota where required

    Requirements

    * Proven experience in electro-mechanical engineering (essential)

    * Experience working with automated gates, barriers, or similar systems (highly desirable)

    * Basic PLC knowledge or experience (advantageous but not essential)

    * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * Full UK driving licence

    * Ability to work independently and manage your own workload

    * Ideally based in or near Reading
