How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Position Title: Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer
    Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
    Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 + package (CIS Freelance Available)

    The Role

    You will play a key role in supporting the technical delivery of civils and groundworks works on a major project in Rosyth. Working closely with the site and engineering teams, you will be responsible for accurate setting out, interpreting engineering information, and ensuring works are delivered in line with design, programme, and quality standards.

    Projects include civils, groundworks, concrete structures, and infrastructure packages requiring accurate setting out, surveying, and dimensional control.

    This role suits a technically minded Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer who enjoys working with precision and detail while supporting and mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the successful delivery of the project.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Carry out accurate setting out and dimensional control across allocated areas of the works
    • Interpret and communicate engineering drawings and technical information to site teams
    • Produce as-built surveys and maintain accurate project records
    • Establish and maintain survey control, verifying control points and dimensional accuracy
    • Ensure survey equipment and instrumentation are correctly calibrated and maintained
    • Identify discrepancies in engineering drawings and raise RFIs or technical queries
    • Support design coordination and engineering information management
    • Carry out site inspections and quality checks, ensuring works meet specification and ITP requirements
    • Maintain and assist with quality assurance documentation and permits
    • Support delivery of Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability standards on site
    • Provide quantity information and assist with material call-offs and procurement
    • Assist with logistics planning and coordination of temporary works inspections
    • Maintain a site diary and communicate technical updates with the project team
    • Mentor and support Graduate, Assistant, and Apprentice Engineers

    Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Desired, Not Essential)

    • HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Structural Engineering
    • Proven Site Engineering experience with strong setting out capability
    • Experience delivering civils, groundworks, or concrete frame projects
    • Highly competent in surveying and setting out techniques
    • Experience using survey equipment and CAD software for engineering data transfer
    • Ability to interrogate design information and resolve technical discrepancies
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly to site teams
    • Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers
