How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor
    Plymouth
    Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of works, an excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established construction company on a permanent basis. The business operates across a range of sectors including Education, Commercial, Industrial, and Heritage. This role will be primarily office-based, with regular site visits and client meetings in the surrounding areas. It is ideally suited to a recent graduate or someone nearing completion of a Quantity Surveying degree, as well as individuals looking to take the next step in their career within the construction industry. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to gain valuable experience and develop within a supportive and established team. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    Assist the commercial team in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation
    Undertake quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities (BOQs)
    Support the procurement of subcontractors, suppliers, and materials in line with project specifications and budgets
    Monitor and track project costs, including variations, change orders, and progress payments
    Collaborate with the project team to review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier agreements
    Assist with the valuation of works and certification of subcontractor payments in line with contractual terms
    Attend site visits to monitor progress, quality, and compliance, identifying potential issues where necessary
    Maintain accurate records and documentation, including contracts, correspondence, and financial reports
    Requirements:

    Degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
    Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Excellent IT skills
    A proactive, adaptable approach with a willingness to learn
    Full UK driving licence
