How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We’re looking for an R&D CE&I Engineering Manager to join our team at Capenhurst. In this role, you will lead the development of Control, Electrical and Instrumentation engineering capability to support a wide range of R&D projects. You will build and strengthen a network of specialist CE&I engineering suppliers to enhance internal expertise, and you will take responsibility for resolving complex technical challenges to optimise CE&I design for critical or novel plant equipment and systems.

You will shape Urenco R&D’s approach to CE&I design and regulatory compliance, ensuring high standards across all activities. You will also work closely with the Project Delivery team to define and implement design and engineering initiatives that align with each project’s stage of development and support the smooth transfer of R&D projects to capital projects.

At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What you’ll do: Health, Safety, Environment and Security

Ensure inherent safety is built into all CE&I design solutions.
Consider the full spectrum of engineering, operating, process and maintenance conditions during design.
Address critical factors such as technician behaviour and human factors, common mode failure and unrevealed failure.
Ensure all documents are correctly marked, stored and managed in line with security and export control requirements.
Deliver engineering designs that fully comply with all relevant legislation and standards.
    Team Performance

Promote a strong sense of teamwork that drives CE&I engineering excellence and supports a collaborative approach to design and problem solving.
Offer coaching, mentoring and technical guidance to engineers across R&D and the wider organisation.
Manage and lead projects within the team portfolio
    Technical Specialist Responsibilities

Provide expert capability as an experienced CE&I engineer.
Lead and support change management initiatives across the CE&I discipline.
Contribute specialist input to process safety activities within R&D projects.
Support incident investigations for pilot plant operations and long‑term issues.
    CE&I Engineering Excellence

Improve the delivery of CE&I engineering by ensuring that design bases are compliant, detailed designs are accurate, and implementation scope is clearly defined and communicated.
Drive continuous improvement in CE&I engineering standards and systems to increase efficiency, enhance design traceability and support high‑quality project outcomes.
What do you need to thrive in this role?

Chartered CE&I Engineer with substantial design, operational and ideally commissioning experience, typically gained over a minimum of ten years.
Degree or equivalent engineering qualification in CE&I Engineering (or similar), supported by at least ten years of CE&I engineering experience.
Experience within a chemical or nuclear environment.
Strong background working in highly regulated environments, including experience on top tier COMAH sites or nuclear facilities.
Broad knowledge of CE&I technologies, systems and equipment.
Extensive experience working within multi‑discipline engineering teams, with a clear understanding of the roles and contributions of each discipline.
Ability to lead small teams and manage projects.
What can you expect from us?

More than just a job, we offer a future. More than just a place to work, we provide an opportunity to prosper.  As an employee of Urenco you will receive:

Generous Annual Leave: Starting at 25 days, increasing by one day every two years (up to 30 days), plus 13 additional flexible days. Option to buy or sell up to 5 holiday days.
Family-Friendly Policies: A wide range of policies to support work-life balance and family needs.
Bonus Scheme: A competitive bonus scheme based on company and individual performance.
Pension Scheme: Defined contribution plan with up to 16% employer contribution.
Private Medical & Dental Cover: Single coverage with the option to purchase additional benefits.
Flexible Benefits: Life assurance, income protection, and other options tailored to your lifestyle, with tax and National Insurance savings.
Training & Development: A focus on continuous learning, with personalised training packages to support your career growth, including mandatory health and safety courses.
    Security vetting

Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.

Creating a diverse and inclusive workforce

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. As part of this commitment, we are implementing anonymized CV screening. Your CV will be presented without any personal information that could identify you (e.g., name, contact details, age, gender, etc.). This helps us focus on your qualifications and potential, ensuring a fair and unbiased assessment process.

Putting people at the heart of our business, we strive to create an open and inclusive workplace that allows every voice to be heard and diversity to thrive. If you require any reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process, please let our talent acquisition team know.
