How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Summary:

    Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Chief Engineer will lead and manage a team of engineers, works staff, and subcontractors to deliver projects to the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. A key deliverable for the role is to ensure all works comply technically with contract documents, construction issue specifications, and drawings.

    Daily responsibilities include monitoring the programme, assessing risks and opportunities across design, procurement, and construction activities. The Chief Engineer will  develop and implement Temporary Works proposals and maintain excellent working relationships with the client team. This role demands strong leadership, a collaborative approach, and experience delivering multi-million-pound projects in complex construction environments, with a focus on compliance with relevant building products, construction details, rules, regulations, and quality standards. The Chief Engineer will work a backshift schedule, Monday to Friday, late afternoon into the evening.

    Skills:

    Strong leadership and team management
    Collaborative and effective team working
    Experience delivering multi-million-pound nuclear or similarly regulated projects
    Reinforced concrete construction expertise
    Technical compliance with contract documents, specifications, and drawings
    Risk and opportunity assessment across design, procurement, and construction
    Temporary Works proposals development and implementation
    Client relationship management
    Knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant regulations
    Programme monitoring and control
    Certifications & Standards:

    Relevant construction and safety certifications (e.g., SMSTS, CSCS) recommended
    Likely to hold a formal qualification in civil engineering or similar
    High level of knowledge of applicable building regulations and quality standards
    Temporary Works Coordinator experience or certification (desirable)
