How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We're looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our client's growing Energy Transition Team and play a leading role in delivering the next generation of low‑ and zero‑carbon energy projects. If you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges and want to influence the UK's transition to cleaner energy, this is a role where your impact will be felt for decades.

    About the Role
As a senior member of a multidisciplinary engineering group, you will lead the development of mechanical designs across a diverse portfolio of energy projects - from early‑stage concept work through to construction, operation and eventual decommissioning.
    The work spans:

    Conventional power generation
    Energy‑from‑waste facilities
    Industrial energy systems
Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS)
Future fuels and first‑of‑a‑kind low‑carbon technologiesYou'll collaborate with private developers, utilities, government bodies, lenders, EPC contractors and OEMs to deliver safe, efficient and innovative engineering solutions.

    What You'll Be Doing

Developing cost‑effective, practical mechanical engineering solutions to complex problems
Working across all project stages: Feasibility, Concept, FEED, Value Engineering and Detailed Design
Producing mechanical deliverables including calculations, equipment specifications and datasheets for turbines, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels and heat exchangers
Collaborating with process engineers on PFDs and P&IDs
Supporting plant layout development and 3D model reviews
Working with equipment vendors and evaluating technical proposals
Providing engineering advice on plant integrity issues for operational assets
Contributing to mechanical discipline bids and wider multi‑disciplinary proposals

    What We're Looking For

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Chartered Engineer (or working towards IEng/CEng) with a relevant professional institute
Post‑graduate experience in Power Generation or Oil & Gas
Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards for plant equipment and piping design
Experience in pressure vessel and piping design, including stress analysis
Familiarity with plant 3D modelling, working alongside designers and pipe stress engineers
Proficiency in MS Excel for schedules/datasheets and MathCAD for engineering calculations
Experience with operational thermal plant, troubleshooting and integrity assessments
Knowledge of gas turbine systems; reciprocating engine experience is an advantage
Experience with OEMs, EPC contractors or similar organisations; O&M experience highly desirable

You'll be part of a team at the forefront of the energy transition, working on projects that push the boundaries of engineering innovation. We offer flexible working locations, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to influence major low‑carbon infrastructure across the UK and beyond
