How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Building Control Surveyor (Interim)

    Location: Grimsby
    Rate: £60 per hour (Umbrella)
We are seeking an experienced Building Control Surveyor for an interim role within a busy Building Control service. The successful candidate will support compliance across a varied caseload, ensuring that building works meet all statutory and regulatory requirements.

    On‑Site Requirements

Minimum 3 days per week on site (office or local inspection sites)
    Friday working is essential
    Earliest start time: 7:30am
Must be local or willing to work locally
Candidates without council/local authority experience will be considered
Flexibility available - potential split between a 3‑day on‑site surveyor and 2‑day planning role

    Role Overview

The Building Control team ensures that buildings are designed, constructed, and altered in line with the Building Regulations and associated legislation. While compliance sits with those undertaking the work, Building Control checks and verifies that standards are achieved-and ensures corrective action is taken when they are not.
This role requires registration with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) under Part 2A of the Building Act 1984 (Sections 58A-58M).

    Key Responsibilities

Make decisions on assessments in line with the BSR competency framework and within the limits of your professional registration.
Ensure all buildings within your remit comply with regulatory standards in respect of health, safety, accessibility, sustainability, energy conservation, and design.
Exercise delegated powers under the Building Act 1984, within your level of competence.
Manage a portfolio of developments, including:
    New applications
    Regularisation applications
    Reversion applications
Maintain accurate records for plan appraisals, site inspections, and remedial actions.
Inspect domestic projects to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and technical standards.
Manage a caseload including non‑domestic low‑risk buildings and dangerous structures.
Participate in an out‑of‑hours rota (with supervision as required).
Carry out enforcement or remedial actions under the guidance of a more senior/validated surveyor.
Work flexibly in response to changing workloads, including early starts or extended hours when necessary.

    What We're Looking For

Experience in Building Control, including plan checking and site inspections
Strong understanding of Building Regulations, the Building Act, and compliance processes
Ability to work independently within your validated competency level
Strong communication, decision‑making, and technical appraisal skills
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Building Safety Regulator
    Salary description

    £60.00 - £60.00 per hour
