How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Civil Engineer

    My client is a fast-growing, award-winning Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Transport Planning consultancy delivering projects across residential, commercial and care sectors. You will join a collaborative business working on schemes ranging from local developments to large-scale strategic sites, building long-term relationships with developers, contractors and local authorities.
     
    In this Principal Civil Engineer role, you will be:
    ·Leading and managing a civil engineering design team delivering drainage, highways and external works schemes
    ·Overseeing projects from pre-application through planning, detailed design and condition discharge
    ·Designing and reviewing drainage systems in line with Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations and the SuDS Manual
    ·Delivering on- and off-site highway works including S278 and S38 schemes to relevant standards
    ·Managing team resources, reviewing drawings and reports, and maintaining quality outputs
    ·Mentoring engineers working towards professional accreditation
    ·Preparing fee proposals and managing project budgets
    ·Attending client meetings and site visits, building strong working relationships
    ·Managing design risk and embedding health, safety and sustainability principles
     
    To be considered for this Principal Civil Engineer position, you will ideally have:
    ·Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or be working towards CEng
    ·A degree or HND in Civil Engineering
    ·Strong experience in drainage, highways and infrastructure design
    ·Team leadership and project management experience
    ·Experience working with developers, architects and local authorities
    ·Commercial awareness and fee proposal experience
    ·Proficiency in AutoCAD and Site 3D (or equivalent)
    ·Excellent written and verbal communication skills
     
    Your salary will be £58,000 - £68,000 dependent on experience, reflecting your capability as a Principal Civil Engineer.
