How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Engineer – Heat Networks & Metering Systems

    ⚡ Hiring urgently – Immediate interviews available.

    📍 Location: Greater Manchester office or home-based (Southeast preferred)
    🧭 Travel: Regular travel to London client sites but clients are also national
    💼 Type: Full-time | Permanent

    Location: Manchester or London (field-based role with travel, primarily London)

    About you

    You will have a strong electrical background and be looking to develop your career within a specialist and growing sector. Whether you already have experience in metering systems or are looking to transition into the industry, you will be hands-on, technically minded, and eager to learn.

    You should be based in or near Salford or London, with the ability to travel to client sites as required.

    You’ll be comfortable working independently in the field, solving problems, and engaging with clients professionally. A proactive attitude and willingness to develop new skills are essential.

    About the role

    My client are looking for an Electrical Engineer / Metering Engineer to support the delivery of metering and energy system projects across communal and district energy networks.

    You will be involved in the installation, commissioning, testing & maintenance of metering systems, as well as supporting AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) and communication technologies. Full training will be provided where required.

    This is a field-based role with travel primarily across London and surrounding areas.

    Responsibilities

    Installation, Maintenance & Commissioning

    Install, commission, maintain, and replace electricity & heat meters, sub-meters, and data loggers
    Carry out electrical testing, commissioning, and system setup
    Support AMR installations and ensure remote meter reading functionality
    Work on building-wide metering systems (new and existing developments)

    Fault Finding & Support

    Diagnose and resolve faults across metering and communication systems
    Ensure minimal system downtime and effective issue resolution
    Support onboarding of new systems for accurate billing and monitoring
    Project & Client Support

    Support projects from pricing of works, installation through to client handover
    Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
    Maintain accurate documentation and system records

    Skills and experience

    Essential

    Qualified Electrician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) or electrical engineering background
    Experience in electrical installation, testing, or fault finding
    Full UK driving licence
    Willingness to travel for site-based work
    Based in or near Salford or London
    Desirable

    Experience with metering systems or smart meters
    Knowledge of AMR, data loggers, or remote monitoring systems
    Exposure to heat networks or communal/district energy systems
    Understanding of communication protocols (MBUS, ModBus, LoRaWAN)
