How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electronics Design Engineer

    Location: Cambourne, Cambridge (On‑site)

Join a world‑leading technology organisation developing advanced electronic systems for cutting‑edge scientific instrumentation. This is a hands‑on electronics design role where you'll take designs from initial concept through to verification, compliance, and manufacturing readiness across high‑performance electron microscopy platforms.

    Why You'll Love This Role

Work on innovative, high‑precision electronic systems used worldwide.
Take full ownership of analogue, digital and microcontroller‑based designs.
Work with high‑voltage, precision and embedded electronics in a specialist lab environment.
Influence product safety, performance and compliance across global markets.
Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering, manufacturing and supplier teams.
Play a key technical role in new product introduction and continuous improvement.

    What You'll Be Doing

Designing analogue, digital and high‑voltage electronic circuits for advanced instrumentation.
Developing microcontroller‑based hardware, embedded interfaces and low‑level control electronics.
Supporting regulatory certification (CSA, SEMI, EN60101‑1, UKCA) and acting as a local conformity officer.
Leading schematic capture, PCB layout reviews, simulation, prototyping and board bring‑up.
Performing verification, debugging and root‑cause analysis using lab equipment.
Supporting EMC compliance, working closely with external test houses.
Contributing to NPI activities and ensuring designs transition smoothly into manufacturing.
Working with suppliers and production sites to ensure test coverage, tooling and process readiness.
Producing technical documentation, specifications and change management inputs (ECR/ECO).
Promoting safe working practices in environments involving HV, ESD‑sensitive components and lab equipment.

    What We're Looking For

A degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
Strong experience in analogue circuit design and microcontroller‑based systems.
Proficiency with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, Pulsonix) and circuit simulation software.
Confident debugging electronic assemblies using oscilloscopes, analysers and HV test equipment.
Solid understanding of EMC, grounding, signal integrity and safety standards.
Basic embedded C skills for hardware bring‑up and diagnostics.
(Desirable) Knowledge of FPGA/digital logic (VHDL/Verilog), high‑voltage electronics, EMC/CE/FCC compliance or scientific instrumentation.

    Ready to Apply?

If you're an Electronics Design Engineer who enjoys hands‑on development, solving complex design challenges and contributing to advanced scientific technology, we'd love to hear from you. This is a chance to make a meaningful impact within a forward‑thinking engineering team and grow your capabilities in a world‑leading organisation.
