How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A busy and well-established school in the Sandwell area is seeking an experienced School Caretaker to join their site team. This role is ideal for a reliable, proactive individual who is confident managing the day-to-day maintenance, security, and upkeep of a school site.

    This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced environment where the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.

    Important: This position requires a candidate who can start and perform the role immediately. No training will be provided.

    Key Responsibilities

    Opening and locking the school premises, including alarm setting and security checks

    Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs across the site

    Ensuring the school grounds and buildings are kept clean, safe, and well maintained

    Conducting regular health and safety checks and reporting any issues

    Managing deliveries and moving equipment or furniture as required

    Monitoring contractors working on site

    Responding to site emergencies or maintenance issues promptly

    Ensuring compliance with school health and safety procedures

    Requirements

    Previous experience working as a School Caretaker, Site Supervisor, or Facilities Assistant within a school environment

    Strong understanding of school site maintenance and health & safety procedures

    Ability to work independently and manage site responsibilities efficiently

    Good practical maintenance and DIY skills

    Reliable, punctual, and highly organised

    Strong awareness of safeguarding responsibilities in a school setting

    Safeguarding

    This role involves working within an education environment and is therefore subject to safeguarding checks.

    An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred.

    Candidates without an Enhanced DBS will be required to obtain and pay for their own Enhanced DBS check.
