TeacherActive is working in partnership with a welcoming mainstream primary school in North Birmingham that has a dedicated SEND Hub to support pupils with additional needs. The school is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

This role involves supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub who are non-verbal and have Autism. Some pupils may display challenging behaviours; it is essential that candidates have previous experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs.

    The Role:

    • Supporting pupils within the school’s SEND Hub on a 1:1 and small group basis
    • Working closely with pupils who are non-verbal and have Autism
    • Supporting pupils with their communication, emotional regulation, and engagement
    • Managing and responding appropriately to challenging behaviours
    • Working alongside the class teacher and SEND team to support learning and development
    • Helping to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • Experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs (essential)
    • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils (highly desirable)
    • Strong behaviour management skills
    • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
    • A passion for supporting children with additional needs
    • A qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or SEND (desirable but not essential)

    Requirements:

    • Must be available full-time from March to July 2026
    • Must be able to provide 2 professional references from recent employers
    • Must have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to complete one through TeacherActive
    • Must have the right to work in the UK

    Why work with TeacherActive?

    • Competitive rates of pay
    • Dedicated consultant support
    • Access to long-term and permanent opportunities
    • If unsuccessful for this role, we will support you in finding suitable roles in your local area
    • Ongoing support and career development

If you have the experience and passion to support pupils with SEND, we would love to hear from you.

All applicants will be contacted to discuss suitability and then invited to register with TeacherActive.

Registration involves an enhanced DBS check, ID checks and will require you to supply good professional references. We pride ourselves on excellent service. We can provide a wide range of opportunities in schools and other educational institutions, with good rates of pay, at times to suit your needs.

Regular external audits have shown repeatedly that our standards are exceptional. We are passionate about finding the right staff for each environment.
