How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Description:

    Job Title: Estimator

    Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (dependent on experience)
    Location: Bedford
    Sector: Residential Construction (New Build & Refurbishment)

    Role Overview:
    We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join a growing construction team based in Bedford. The role will focus primarily on residential projects, including new build housing and refurbishment works. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive cost estimates, supporting the pre-construction process, and contributing to successful tender outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for residential new build and refurbishment projects.

    * Analyse drawings, specifications, schedules, and other tender documentation.

    * Carry out material take-offs and labour pricing.

    * Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.

    * Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within tenders.

    * Work closely with Directors, Project Managers, and Commercial teams during bid preparation.

    * Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and post-tender reviews as required.

    * Maintain and update pricing databases and cost benchmarks.

    * Assist with tender handovers to the delivery team upon contract award.

    Project Types:

    * Residential new build developments

    * Residential refurbishment and improvement works

    * Associated external works and infrastructure (where applicable)

    Experience & Skills Required:

    * Proven experience as an Estimator within residential construction.

    * Strong understanding of new build housing and refurbishment projects.

    * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

    * Good knowledge of subcontractor procurement and pricing.

    * Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness.

    * Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.

    * Excellent communication and organisational skills.

    Qualifications:

    * Construction-related qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience preferred).

    * Relevant estimating or commercial qualifications (desirable).

    Personal Attributes:

    * Detail-oriented with a methodical approach to estimating.

    * Commercially aware and deadline-driven.

    * Able to work independently and as part of a team.

    * Proactive, reliable, and professional.
