How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Physicist/Development Engineer
We are working with a highly innovative technology company developing cutting-edge scientific instrumentation used in advanced research and industrial environments. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Physicist or Engineer with a strong practical mindset to join their development team.
This is a hands-on role sitting between R&D and field engineering, ideal for someone who enjoys building, troubleshooting and working directly with complex hardware systems, while applying fundamental scientific understanding to solve real-world problems.
    The Role
You will be involved in the development, testing, installation and optimisation of advanced instrumentation systems. This will include:
    * Building and assembling complex experimental and instrumentation systems
    * Troubleshooting hardware, diagnosing faults and implementing solutions
    * Supporting system integration, testing and validation activities
    * Interpreting experimental data and solving problems from first principles
    * Assisting with installation and commissioning of systems at customer sites
    * Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering and science
    About You
We are looking for a practical, adaptable individual with a strong grounding in physics or engineering, who is comfortable working hands-on with real systems.
    You are likely to have:
    * A degree (or PhD) in Physics, Engineering or a related discipline
    * Strong experimental or instrumentation experience
    * A hands-on approach with experience building, modifying or troubleshooting hardware
    * The ability to analyse results and apply first-principles thinking
    * Experience working with complex systems in laboratory or industrial environments
    Highly Desirable
    * Hands-on experience with vacuum systems (UHV/XHV), including operation, maintenance or assembly
    * Experience with scientific instrumentation (e.g. detectors, imaging systems, surface analysis tools, or similar)
    * Experience with data acquisition, control systems or experimental automation
    * Exposure to electronics, sensors or system integration
    Additional Information
    * This role may involve occasional travel to support system installation and customer interaction
    * The position offers excellent exposure to cutting-edge technology and real-world applications
    * Suitable for candidates from academia or industry, provided they have strong practical, hands-on experience
    Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to join a growing, technically advanced organisation where you will work on complex, real-world systems and play a key role in bringing innovative technology to life.
If you are a physics-minded engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with hardware and solving challenging technical problems, we would be keen to hear from you
