How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

One of the UK’s longest-established entertainment charities and arguably best known for the annual Royal Variety Performance, a major fundraising event attended by senior royals and watched by millions worldwide. The Royal Variety Charity is trying to ensure that no one who has contributed to the entertainment industry is left without support when they need it most.

Our ambition goes far beyond simply administering grants; it’s about providing a safety net with dignity, compassion, and continuity for people whose careers are often freelance, precarious, and lacking long-term security.

Through this Grants Officer role, we are aiming to strengthen a system that identifies individuals in need earlier, responds more effectively, and delivers more holistic support. That means not just financial assistance, but also access to mental health services, care provision, and coordinated help through partnerships with other organisations. Treating each beneficiary as a whole person, not just a case, understanding their circumstances deeply and tailoring support accordingly.

    Grants Officer

    Twickenham

    £35,000 to £40,000

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Grants Officer to help individuals access vital funding and care services. Guiding applicants through the grants process, helping them access financial assistance, mental health support, and funding for admission into our care home, assessing applications, ensuring they are complete and accurately reflect each individual’s needs, and making recommendations for support in line with the Charity’s criteria.

Working closely with the Grants Sub-Committee, Mental Health Sub-Committee and Head of Operations, you will manage and prioritise applications, provide advice and guidance to applicants and their families, and liaise with partner organisations to ensure appropriate support is in place.

A rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference, helping people overcome financial and emotional barriers to access the care and support they need. This role provides an excellent and unique opportunity to make a real difference to individuals across the UK who have contributed to the entertainment industry.

You will come to the role with excellent verbal and written communication skills, together with an ability to demonstrate empathy and diplomacy. Be Confident in dealing with a range of sensitive and emotive welfare issues, which can include mental health challenges, with the ability to remain calm, patient and focused when under pressure. Previous professional experience as a Caseworker/Grants Officer would be highly desirable.

    Closing Date: Monday 20th April

    Interviews: week commencing 27th April

If this appeals to you and you would welcome the opportunity to have an informal and confidential discussion, please get in touch with our advising consultant, Philip Nelson, on 020 3590 9978 or via email at philip.nelson@thehiringdept.com.
