How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    NDT Technician – MPI experienced

    Location: Burton
    Salary: £37,000+
    Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday

    The Opportunity

Our client is a well‑established and growing company within the rail engineering and rolling stock maintenance sector, supporting major UK train operators and OEMs.

This is a hands‑on role focused on ensuring the structural integrity and safety of rail bogies and associated components, playing a vital part in keeping the rail network safe, reliable, and compliant.

    What You’ll Be Doing

As an NDT Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting safety‑critical rail components throughout refurbishment and overhaul programmes.

    Key responsibilities include:

Carrying out Visual Inspection of rail bogies, frames, welds, and structural components
Performing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on various bogie components
Conducting Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) where required
Identifying cracks, corrosion, fatigue, flaking, and other surface‑breaking defects
Ensuring inspections meet internal quality standards, customer specifications, and relevant rail industry standards
    What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in NDT inspection, ideally within rail, rolling stock, heavy engineering, automotive, or aerospace environments
Strong background in Visual Inspection and MPI (rail bogie experience highly desirable but not essential)
A meticulous approach with a strong understanding of quality and safety‑critical inspection
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and inspection criteria
Experience using CMM or inspection measurement equipment is advantageous, but not essential
Willingness to work night shifts once fully trained
    Training & Development

You’ll receive approximately three months of structured, site‑based training, providing full exposure to:

Rail bogie designs and failure modes
    Company‑specific inspection procedures
Rail industry quality and safety standards
This ensures you are fully competent and confident before transitioning onto night shifts.

    Why Join This Business?

Secure, long‑term role within the UK rail industry
Work on safety‑critical rail components where quality truly matters
    Clear salary progression once competent
Genuine commitment to training and development
Supportive, skilled inspection team and a forward‑thinking engineering environment
