How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location: East London (Community-Based / Alternative Provision)
Salary: Competitive daily rate (long-term agency contract)
    Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
    Start Date: April 2026

    The Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to support children and young people within a specialist, community-based provision across East London.

This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality English education outside of a traditional classroom environment, working with pupils who may struggle to engage in mainstream education due to complex needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

The role involves delivering personalised, therapeutic-informed English teaching in a range of real-world settings such as libraries, community centres, and other local environments. The position is offered on a long-term agency basis, with strong potential to transition into a permanent role.

The successful candidate will support pupils to develop literacy, communication skills, and confidence, while helping them re-engage positively with education.

    Key Responsibilities

    The English Teacher will:

    * Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to individual pupil needs and EHCP targets

    * Adapt teaching approaches to support pupils with SEMH needs, neurodiversity, and literacy gaps

    * Deliver lessons in community-based settings using creative and practical approaches

    * Support the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills

    * Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress, providing regular feedback and reports

    * Use consistent, therapeutic-informed behaviour management strategies

    * Work collaboratively with therapeutic staff, families, and external professionals

    * Conduct and review risk assessments for all off-site learning activities

    * Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements

    * Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times

    Why Join This Opportunity?

    * Meaningful Impact: Help pupils re-engage with education through English and communication

    * Unique Teaching Environment: Deliver learning beyond the classroom in real-world contexts

    * Professional Development: Gain experience in a therapeutic, multi-disciplinary setting

    * Career Progression: Opportunity for a permanent role following a successful placement

    Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a passionate and adaptable English Teacher with experience supporting learners with additional needs.

    Essential requirements:

    * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

    * Experience teaching English (KS2–KS4 desirable)

    * Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs and/or additional learning needs

    * Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive teaching practices

    Desirable:

    * Experience in alternative provision or community-based education

    * Ability to deliver creative, engaging English lessons outside a traditional classroom

    * Knowledge of differentiated teaching strategies for disengaged learners

    Key skills and attributes:

    * Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

    * A calm, consistent, and adaptable approach

    * Strong communication and organisational skills

    * Resilience and confidence working in dynamic environments

    * Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
