How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    In-House Legal Counsel

    Salary £54,441pa

    Hemel Hempstead.

At Hightown, we are driven by a simple, human belief: people deserve safe, secure homes and services delivered with care. As our new In-House Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in making that a reality, championing fair outcomes, strengthening our approach to dispute resolution, and helping colleagues feel confident and supported when navigating complex legal challenges.

This is more than a legal role. It’s an opportunity to be part of an organisation where collaboration is natural, compassion guides our decisions, and respect shapes every interaction, whether with a customer, a colleague, or a partner. You will be trusted to empower teams across Housing, Repairs, and Asset, helping them understand risks, make informed decisions, and resolve issues early because when we empower others, we create better outcomes for everyone.

    What You Will Be Doing

In this role, you will become Hightown’s expert voice on housing disrepair, litigation and disputes.

    You Will:

Take the lead on disrepair claims, crafting strategies, guiding colleagues, and ensuring cases progress with clarity and confidence
Represent Hightown in appropriate court matters, offering reassurance and expertise where it’s needed most
Coach and support operational teams to address issues early, always with a focus on fairness and long-term solutions
Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage open conversations and inclusive decision-making
Provide clear, practical legal advice that helps colleagues feel supported rather than overwhelmed
Share insight with senior leaders so we can continually improve, learn from disputes, and reduce risks for our customers

Throughout it all, you will help create moments where compassion truly matters, supporting customers through difficult situations, guiding teams through challenging decisions, and ensuring everyone feels heard and valued.

    What You Will Bring

You will be a qualified Solicitor or CILEx Lawyer with solid experience in housing law, dispute resolution or litigation.

But just as important is how you work:

You communicate with clarity and empathy, even when the subject is complex
You will be confident navigating risks but practical in your solutions
You enjoy working alongside non-legal colleagues, helping them learn, grow and feel empowered
You take pride in your judgement, your accuracy, and your ability to stay calm under pressure
You bring people together, finding shared understanding and helping others see the bigger picture

If you naturally combine professionalism with humanity, you will feel right at home at Hightown.

    What We Offer:

Professional Growth: Opportunities for training and development to enhance your skills.
Annual leave: 33 days including Bank Holidays (Pro Rata)
Competitive Salary: £54,441 per annum for a 35-hour week.
    Monthly Attendance Bonus
Hybrid working 2 days in the office
Workplace Pension Scheme: And life assurance cover of three times your annual salary.
Discounts and Savings: Online and high street retailers, gyms, restaurants, and cinemas.
Employee Support: Health & wellbeing services.
    Free On-site Gym Access

If you want your legal career to be both professionally rewarding and deeply meaningful, we would love to welcome you to Hightown.

Apply today and help us create safer, fairer and more supportive futures for our residents.

We will be reviewing applications and interviewing on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early.
