    Job Title: CNC Machinist – Double Days Shift


    Location: Preston,

    Working Arrangement: Fully On‑Site

    Hours: 07:00–15:00 / 15.00-23.00, Monday–Friday

    Contract Length: 12 Months

    IR35 Status: Inside IR35

    Start Date: Subject to BPSS Clearance

    Pay Rate: £25.86 per hr PAYE (as well as 33.5 days paid leave per year)


    The Client

    You will be joining a long‑established nuclear fuel manufacturing site specialising in the fabrication of fuel for AGR and LWR reactor types. The site also provides uranium conversion services, processes fuel‑cycle residues, and supports the decommissioning of redundant plant facilities.


    About the Role

    We are recruiting an experienced CNC Machinist to join the Component Manufacturing Facility at Springfields. The successful candidate will support the safe and efficient manufacture of precision components within a high‑integrity, safety‑critical environment.

    You will operate CNC milling and turning machines, ensure compliance with strict procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate CNC milling and turning machines to produce precision components.
    • Use hand tools proficiently, including deburring and finishing stainless steel products.
    • Carry out detailed inspection activities to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Perform manual handling tasks in line with safe working practices.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards within your operational area.
    • Work flexibly across different roles and operational areas as required.


    Desirable Experience

    • Previous experience operating a PUMA MX CNC Lathe.
    • Experience in safety‑critical or quality‑critical manufacturing environments.
    • Strong attention to detail with a questioning attitude and focus on safe working practices.


    Required Qualifications / Experience

    • Previous experience operating CNC machines (milling and turning).
    • National Certificate in an engineering or machining discipline, or equivalent experience.
    • Experience working to regulations or strict operating procedures.


    Additional Requirements

    • Ability to work the double‑days shift pattern.
    • Successful applicants must pass a Criminal Records Bureau Check.
    • Must become a Monitored Worker under Ionising Radiations Regulations.
    • Some tasks will require personal protective equipment, including respirators.
    • Security Level: UK – Able to gain UKSC clearance
