How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Workshop Manual Author / SERP Engineer

    Location: Whitley, Coventry
    Contract: 12 Months | Inside IR35

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Workshop Manual Author / SERP (Service Evaluation & Repair Process) Engineer to support the evaluation and development of serviceability processes for new vehicle programmes, and the creation of Workshop Manuals. This is a unique opportunity to work at the early stages of vehicle design, ensuring products meet service, repair, and maintenance requirements while contributing to high-quality workshop manual content.

Working within a specialist team, you will assess whole vehicle designs using virtual and physical methods, representing the voice of the customer and technician within engineering discussions. You will play a key role in improving serviceability, reducing warranty costs, and enhancing overall product quality and reputation.

This role would suit an Automotive Technical Author, Vehicle Technician, or Master Technician looking to transition into a more engineering-focused environment.

    Key Responsibilities

Conduct service feasibility assessments across the full vehicle design lifecycle (kick-off to launch)
Create detailed service feasibility reports using virtual tools and CAD models
Create detailed Workshop Manuals for Technicians to use within dealerships
Evaluate removal and installation processes, including tooling requirements and access constraints
Use digital manikins to assess ergonomic feasibility and technician interaction
Develop step-by-step repair procedures and estimate service labour times
Identify, communicate, and drive resolution of serviceability and repair concerns
Collaborate with programme and commodity teams to influence design improvements
Author and maintain workshop manual content to internal standards
Update technical documentation based on feedback from engineering and service teams
Represent the Service organisation in cross-functional engineering forums
Support physical validation activities on prototype and production vehicles

    Skills & Experience Required

Strong vehicle knowledge across ICE and/or BEV platforms
Experience in technical authoring, service processes, or vehicle maintenance/repair
Ability to analyse designs and assess serviceability and feasibility
Strong IT literacy (Microsoft Office and related tools)
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    Methodical, structured approach to problem-solving
Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced engineering environment

    Desirable Skills

Experience with CAD tools (e.g. Vis Mock-Up or similar)
Understanding of service tooling, workshop equipment, and repair methods
Experience with JIRA, Agile, or similar systems
Strong report writing and documentation skills
Please note, this role is deemed inside of IR35. The Umbrella Pay Rate offered is inclusive of the Assignment pay rate, holiday pay and Apex Recruitments contribution towards Employer Costs
