How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mechanical Package Manager

    Harlow, Essex
    £65,000 to £70,000 + package

If you are a Mechanical Package Manager who wants real ownership of a package rather than acting as a go-between for everyone else, this is the sort of role that gives you the room to actually manage the job properly.

This opportunity is based on a major data centre project in Harlow. It is the kind of scheme where delivery standards are high, programme matters, and the mechanical package has to be driven properly from pre-start through installation, commissioning and handover. You will not be there to simply attend meetings and report problems upwards. You will be expected to take control of your package, manage subcontractors, coordinate with the wider team and keep the works moving in the right way.

The business itself is well established in the mission-critical market and delivers complex M&E packages on technically demanding projects. That means the environment will suit someone who understands how important sequencing, quality control, technical coordination and commissioning readiness are on this type of work. If you are at your best when you are close to the detail and able to influence the outcome of the job day to day, this should appeal.

    The role

You will take responsibility for the mechanical package on site, making sure labour, materials, information and access are aligned to maintain progress. You will work closely with the Project Manager, other Package Managers, the commercial team, site management and specialist subcontractors to ensure the mechanical installation is delivered safely, correctly and in line with programme.

Day to day, that is likely to include managing subcontractor performance, tracking progress against programme, dealing with coordination issues, reviewing technical information, monitoring quality on installation, attending site and package meetings, and making sure issues are dealt with before they start affecting downstream activities. You will also be involved through commissioning and handover, so this is not a role for someone who only enjoys the installation phase and loses interest at the back end of the project.

This role will also need someone who understands the wider picture. On a data centre project, the mechanical package cannot be managed in isolation. You will need to work well with electrical, CSA and commissioning teams, understand interfaces, and keep the job moving in a coordinated way rather than just focusing on your own area.

    What they are looking for

They are looking for someone with a strong mechanical building services background who has already managed packages or sections of work on sizeable M&E projects. Data centre experience would obviously be useful, but they will also recognise good experience from other technically demanding environments where quality, coordination and commissioning are a big part of the job.

You will need to be organised, technically credible and comfortable holding subcontractors to account. You should be able to read the job properly, spot issues early, keep pressure on programme and communicate clearly with the wider team. This is a role for someone who can combine site presence with proper package control, rather than someone who is either too office-based or too narrow in their focus.

    Why it is worth considering

The attraction here is the scale and seriousness of the project, but also the level of responsibility attached to the role. This is a chance to take ownership of a key mechanical package on a major live scheme in one of the strongest sectors in the market. For the right person, it offers strong project exposure, long-term potential and the chance to be part of a delivery team where your input will genuinely matter.
