Assistant Planner – Tier 1 Main Contractor
Salary: £27-40,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus
Location: Northampton (Hybrid)
A leading Tier 1 main contractor is seeking an Assistant Planner with 2+ years’ experience. The business delivers major industrial, logistics, commercial and infrastructure projects nationwide. You’ll support senior planners across tender and live schemes, gaining experience on large new‑build projects valued £10m–£60m+.
Industrial Projects You’ll Work On
You’ll support planning on industrial and logistics schemes including distribution centres, cold stores, food production, manufacturing, engineering, parcel sortation, automotive, data centres and pharmaceutical or life sciences facilities.
The Role
* Assist in producing tender and construction programmes
* Support sequencing, logistics planning and buildability reviews
* Help prepare tender programmes, build sequences and visuals
* Attend site visits to gather progress information
* Update schedules and assist with progress reporting
* Support delay analysis, variations and design change reviews
* Work across multiple live projects and tenders
* Hybrid role across office, site and home working
The Right Person
* 2+ years’ experience as an Assistant or Junior Planner
* Experience with a main contractor (non‑housing preferred)
* Understanding of construction sequencing and delivery
* Able to contribute practical, build‑focused programme input
* Confident communicator with strong stakeholder skills
* Highly organised with good attention to detail
* Experience with Asta Powerproject or Primavera (training offered)
* Relevant qualification such as ONC, HNC, BEng or NVQ
* Based within a reasonable commute of Northampton
