    Job description

    Role: Independent Assessor - Radiation Protection / Radioactive Waste

    Position: Permanent
    Location: Aztec West

    Working Pattern: 3 days office / 2 days WFH + occasional site travel to HPC

    Salary: Negotiable + Extremely competitive package

    The Opportunity

    Rullion are supporting a major nuclear new build programme in the search for a highly experienced Independent Assessor to join a specialist assurance function supporting one of the UK's most complex infrastructure projects.

    This is a critical, high-responsibility role where you will act as the independent authority across Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste, providing robust challenge, oversight and assurance in a high-pressure, highly regulated environment.

    You will play a key role in overseeing significant radiographic testing activities, ensuring compliance with UK regulations and best practice, while engaging across all levels of the organisation-from site teams through to senior leadership and regulators.

    Principal Accountabilities

    Lead and deliver independent assessments, inspections and assurance activities
    Provide expert oversight of radiographic testing and radiation protection practices
    Act as a trusted independent voice, challenging processes and driving compliance
    Engage with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership and regulators (ONR)
    Analyse audit, inspection and operational data to identify risk and drive improvement
    Plan and manage your own workload within a highly autonomous role

    About YOU

    Essential Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

    Degree in Physics or Environmental Science
    Certified Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA)
    Certified Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA)
    Minimum 10 years' experience within a highly regulated industry
    Strong knowledge of:
    Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR)
    UK nuclear regulatory frameworks
    Radiation Protection & Waste Management best practice

    Experience We're Looking For (Desired)

    Background in nuclear environments such as:
    Nuclear fuel processing
    Advanced Gas Reactors (AGR)
    Water Reactor programmes
    Defence / Submarine programmes
    Experience in inspection, assurance or compliance roles
    Proven ability to operate in high-pressure, complex project environments
    Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to challenge at all levels
