How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Network Security Engineer (SOC)

Take ownership of complex network security infrastructures within a high-integrity defence environment where your technical decisions directly protect national interests. You will move beyond basic monitoring to actively shape firewall architectures and rapid response protocols across a sophisticated internal estate. This role offers a unique balance of deep technical autonomy and a structured shift pattern designed to provide significant dedicated time away from the workplace.

    The essentials

British citizenship is required for this role, due to security restrictions
Proven experience with enterprise firewall platforms such as Cisco, Palo Alto, or Checkpoint.
Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and VLAN architectures.
Your package Up to £60,000 per annum including a dedicated £7,969 shift allowance.

    Key responsibilities

Manage and optimize high-availability firewall and proxy environments to ensure robust perimeter protection.
Lead the technical response to security incidents by performing deep-packet analysis and traffic interrogation.
Collaborate with internal security teams to design and implement secure network segmentation and SSL decryption policies.
Maintain the integrity of security appliances through proactive lifecycle management and complex troubleshooting.
Provide technical subject matter expertise during out-of-hours response windows to mitigate emerging threats.
    Skills and background

Strong technical background in network engineering with a focus on security hardware.
Hands-on experience configuring and managing Next-Generation Firewalls and secure web gateways.
Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as PRTG or Nagios for maintaining estate visibility.
Ability to analyse complex traffic flows to distinguish between administrative actions and potential threats.
Clear communication skills for reporting technical risks to both engineering and leadership teams.
Flexibility and rewards The employer supports you through:

A balanced 24/7 shift pattern resulting in a shorter average working week of 31.5 hours.
Generous annual leave entitlement of 30.5 days including bank holidays.
Additional financial rewards including a £2,000 annual bonus scheme.
Comprehensive on-call payments and enhanced rates for technical call-outs.
    Location and setup
This position is based full-time on-site in Stevenage to maintain the security of the internal network infrastructure.

Due to the nature of work at our client’s site, these vacancies are only open to British Citizens who hold SC clearance or can obtain it.

    This is a permanent role.
