How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Quantity Surveyor

    Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire

    Sector: Civil Engineering – Highways

    About the Opportunity

    Red Sky Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering key infrastructure schemes across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to work on a major highways project, supporting the commercial team in delivering strong financial performance.

    Key Requirement:

    Previous experience working on fully built highways/roads projects in the UK is essential.

    Role Overview

    Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial delivery of a highways project. This includes assisting with cost control, subcontract administration, and reporting while developing your experience within a structured commercial team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Assist in the preparation of project budgets and cost reports

    Support monthly valuations and applications for payment

    Monitor project costs and assist with forecasting

    Administer subcontract packages, including payments and variations

    Support procurement processes and tender analysis

    Assist with NEC contract administration and compensation events

    Maintain accurate records of commercial activity

    Liaise with site teams and subcontractors to gather cost data

    Support preparation of reports for senior management

    Attend project and commercial meetings as required

    Ensure compliance with company systems and procedures

    Requirements

    Essential:

    Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or related discipline

    Experience working as a QS within civil engineering

    Exposure to fully built highways/roads projects

    Understanding of NEC contracts

    Strong numerical and analytical skills

    Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills

    Desirable:

    Working towards professional accreditation (MRICS / MCICES)
