How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Are you a detail-oriented Engineer with a passion for precision? We are looking for a Test Technician to join the world-class Hitachi Rail team in Newton Aycliffe.

    This isn't just routine maintenance; you will be at the forefront of rail innovation, responsible for the complex fault-finding and validation of fleet trains. If you take pride in your technical accuracy and want to work on some of the most advanced rail vehicles in the UK, we want to hear from you.

    Location: Newton Aycliffe, DL5 6UG

    Contract: Temporary, ongoing (ASAP Start)

    Shifts: Mon-Fri - Weekly Rotational - Days shift: 07:00 - 15:00 & Backshift - 14:30 - 22:30

    Pay:
    £21.31 hourly days & £25.57 hourly afternoons -backshift (PAYE)
    £28.91 hourly days & £34.69 hourly afternoons - backshift (Umbrella)

    Your Role

    As a key member of the engineering team, your day-to-day will involve:

    Testing & Validation: Performing routine and complex testing on fleet trains to ensure safety and performance.

    Complex Fault-Finding: Using engineering drawings and specialised tools (Rapier) to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

    Technical Collaboration: Working alongside Lead Technicians and Engineers to investigate failures and provide critical technical feedback.

    Quality Maintenance: Ensuring all work meets the rigorous standards expected of world-class rail manufacturing.

    What You'll Need

    Qualification: NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (Essential).

    Technical Literacy: The ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

    Experience: A background in fault-finding, maintenance, or validation (Rail experience is a major plus, but other engineering backgrounds such as Mechanical and Electrical are welcome).

    Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for reporting technical failures.
