    Job description

    Job Title: Design / Project Engineer

    Job Type: Permanent

    Status: Full-time

    Location: Chesterfield

    Start Date: TBA

    Salary: Competitive, with annual review, company profit share scheme, and pension scheme following successful completion of probation.

    Overview

    We are seeking a full-time Design / Project Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for engineering design, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and grow.

    The successful candidate will have experience designing components using a variety of manufacturing processes, such as casting, machining, and fabrication. Proficiency in maintaining and producing drawings using CAD design packages is essential, and experience with PLM systems is an advantage.

    You will report directly to the Engineering Manager, and full on-the-job training will be provided.

    Role Responsibilities

    * Creating 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D drawings

    * Maintaining and improving existing product lines, including updating drawings and models in line with EAN procedures.

    * Supporting value engineering initiatives and product improvement projects.

    * Creating, developing, and maintaining product instruction manuals, operating manuals, and sales literature.

    * Assisting with contract documentation and collaborating with the engineering team on large-scale, one-off projects.

    * Supporting the development of quality and work procedures for workshop and factory operations.

    * Participating in client and project meetings.

    * Managing Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the company’s MRP system.

    * Preparing designs, calculations, specifications, and tender documentation as part of the project team.

    Education & Experience

    * Degree-level qualification (B.Sc./B.Eng or equivalent) in Engineering.

    * Demonstrable skills in design

    * Strong understanding of geometrical tolerances.

    * Competent user of 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD.

    * Good working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as PTC Creo or SolidWorks.

    * Strong numerical ability and methodical problem-solving skills.

    * Experience creating and controlling BOMs within CAD systems.

    Skills & Competencies

    * Practical, hands-on approach to engineering tasks.

    * Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret customer and project requirements accurately.

    * High standard of written English and documentation skills.

    * Confident, driven, and resourceful individual.

    * Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.

    * Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

    * Background in mechanical engineering is advantageous but not essential.
