    Job description

Senior Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer

    Location: Notts NG12

Salary: Up to £80,000 + Performance Bonus & Benefits

Reporting to: Technical Director / Associate Director

    The Company

We are a premier UK-based M&E Contractor specializing in end-to-end Design & Build solutions. From conceptual engineering to long-term maintenance, we deliver high-performance HVAC, refrigeration, and integrated M&E packages. With a heavy focus on BIM (Revit/AutoCAD) and sustainability (BREEAM), we pride ourselves on delivering turnkey excellence for complex infrastructure projects.

    The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a technical cornerstone of our design department. You will take full ownership of Mechanical and Public Health (MPH) projects, leading them from initial concept through to site installation. This role is perfect for a proactive leader who enjoys "getting under the hood" of complex plantroom layouts while mentoring the next generation of engineering talent.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Design Leadership: Lead the Mechanical and Public Health design process, ensuring all deliverables meet project deadlines and rigorous quality standards.

    * Technical Excellence: Produce and peer-review complex design calculations, detailed drawings, and technical specifications.

    * System Coordination: Lead the coordination of HVAC, plumbing, and plantroom layouts, ensuring seamless integration with electrical and structural disciplines.

    * Client Engagement: Act as the technical lead in client, design team, and site meetings, representing the firm’s expertise.

    * Commercial Support: Support the tender stage by providing accurate design insights and pricing activities to ensure project viability.

    * Mentorship: Actively mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical precision.

    * Sustainability: Develop and implement energy-efficient, low-carbon engineering solutions in line with modern building regulations.

    * Site Oversight: Conduct site inspections, surveys, and provide commissioning support to ensure "as-built" matches "as-designed."

    Requirements

    * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Built Environment field (Level 4/5 HNC/HND also considered with relevant experience).

    * Experience: 10+ years of dedicated mechanical building services design experience within the UK market.

    * Software Proficiency: Expert-level experience with AutoCAD and Revit. Proficiency in IESVE (or equivalent thermal modelling software) is essential.

    * Technical Depth: Extensive knowledge of HVAC, Domestic Water Services, and Above Ground Drainage design.

    * Regulatory Knowledge: A mastery of UK Building Regulations and British Standards.

    * Professional Status: CEng / IEng or MCIBSE accreditation is highly desirable.

    * Soft Skills: Strong leadership capability, commercial awareness, and a solution-focused mindset.

    What We Offer

    * Remuneration: Competitive salary up to £80,000 based on experience.

    * Rewards: Performance-based bonus scheme.

    * Culture: A friendly, ambitious, and close-knit team environment.

    * Growth: Exposure to a diverse portfolio of high-value projects across multiple sectors.

    * Development: Dedicated support for your ongoing Professional Development
