How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    £46,614 – £48,755 + 32 days holiday + bank holidays + generous pension + benefits

    Looking to take your fire safety career to the next level? This is your opportunity to step into a high-profile, influential role within a world-renowned university, shaping safety standards across a uniquely complex and diverse estate.

    Working as part of a specialist Central Fire Safety team - and reporting directly to the Head of Fire Safety - you’ll play a key role in protecting people, property, and pioneering research environments.

    Why this role stands out

    * Work across an exceptionally varied estate—from cutting-edge laboratories and teaching spaces to residential buildings and major capital projects

    * Take on a strategic yet hands-on position, directly influencing fire safety culture and compliance

    * Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and external enforcing authorities

    * Join a supportive, expert team with the opportunity to deputise for the Head of Fire Safety

    * Enjoy long-term stability within a values-driven, inclusive organisation

    What you’ll be doing

    You’ll act as a trusted fire safety expert across the organisation, delivering practical and strategic support. Your responsibilities will include:

    * Conducting and reviewing fire risk assessments across complex buildings

    * Leading audits, inspections, and compliance reviews

    * Supporting emergency planning and fire drills

    * Advising on events, refurbishments, and major construction projects

    * Investigating fire incidents and alarm activations

    * Liaising with Fire & Rescue Services, building control, and contractors

    * Delivering tailored fire safety training to staff across the university

    What we’re looking for

    * NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (or equivalent)

    * Proven experience in operational fire safety management and FRA delivery

    * Strong working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and PAS 79

    * Experience with passive and active fire protection systems

    * A confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels

    * A proactive mindset with a passion for driving high safety standards

    What’s on offer

    * 25 days holiday + 7 shut down days + bank holidays

    * USS pension scheme (14.5% employer / 6.1% employee contribution)

    * Season ticket loan and additional benefits upon completion of probation

    * Full-time, permanent role (Monday–Friday, rota: 08:00–16:00 or 09:00–17:00)

    * A genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a prestigious environment

    This role is ideal for a fire safety professional ready to step into a position where their expertise will be valued, visible, and impactful every day
