How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Civil Engineer – Drainage Strategy & Flood Risk Assessment
    Location: Norwich
    Salary: 35-45k

    Job Overview
    Our client are looking for a Civil Engineer, whom specialises in drainage strategy and flood risk assessment is required for designing sustainable drainage solutions and evaluating flood risks for development projects. The role involves ensuring that drainage systems comply with environmental regulations, planning policies, and engineering standards while protecting communities and infrastructure from flooding.
    Key Responsibilities
    Prepare Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) to support planning applications.
    Develop drainage strategies for residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments.
    Design surface water drainage systems, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
    Prepare S104 applications for adoptable drainage.
    Carry out hydrological and hydraulic analysis to evaluate flood risks.
    Use modelling software to simulate drainage networks and flood scenarios.
    Liaise with local planning authorities, environmental agency, and water companies as required.
    Ensure designs comply with national and local drainage standards and planning policies.
    Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation for planning submissions.
    Assess the impact of proposed developments on existing drainage networks and floodplains.
    Provide engineering solutions to mitigate flood risks and manage surface water runoff.
    Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including planners, environmental consultants, and structural engineers.
    Support project delivery from concept through to detailed design.
    Required Skills and Experience
    Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or relevant experience.
    Experience in drainage design, flood risk assessment, or water management.
    Knowledge of SuDS principles, stormwater design and flood risk.
    Experience using modelling software such as MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage.
    Understanding of relevant regulations, planning policy, and environmental guidance.
    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical report-writing skills.
    Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
    Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
    Previous experience in highways and S278 agreements would be advantageous.
