    Job description

    Lead Fleet Engineer

    This role is working Monday to Friday days.

    The salary is up to £54,000 per year.

    Job Purpose

    The Lead Fleet Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and service delivery of a fleet of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) while acting as the primary technical contact for the client. The role combines hands-on engineering expertise with operational coordination to ensure fleet availability, compliance, and high service standards.

    The Lead Fleet Engineer will supervise maintenance activities, support technicians where required, manage Vehicle Off Road (VOR) situations, and work closely with the client to coordinate service schedules, resolve technical issues, and ensure contractual obligations are met.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out diagnostics, maintenance, and repair work on HGV vehicles and trailers when required.

    *

    Support technicians with complex fault finding and technical guidance.

    *

    Ensure all maintenance work is completed to manufacturer standards and regulatory requirements.

    *

    Assist in maintaining workshop quality standards and safety procedures.

    *

    Ensure vehicles meet all legal compliance requirements including inspections and safety checks.

    *

    Actively manage Vehicle Off Road (VOR) situations to minimise downtime and return vehicles to service as quickly as possible.

    *

    Act as the primary engineering contact for the client regarding fleet maintenance and service delivery.

    *

    Coordinate service schedules, repairs, and preventative maintenance programmes.

    *

    Provide regular updates on vehicle status, downtime, and repair progress.

    *

    Resolve technical issues and operational concerns raised by the client.

    *

    Ensure contractual service levels and response times are consistently achieved.

    *

    Plan and prioritise daily workshop activities to maximise fleet availability.

    *

    Coordinate with parts suppliers and service providers to ensure timely repairs.

    *

    Monitor vehicle downtime and identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability.

    *

    Maintain accurate maintenance records and reporting systems.

    *

    Support cost control through efficient repair planning and parts usage.

    *

    Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations.

    *

    Maintain compliance with DVSA and industry standards.

    *

    Promote safe working practices within the workshop environment.

    Key Skills & Experience

    Essential

    *

    Proven experience maintaining HGVs and commercial vehicles

    *

    Confident in using Microsoft Excel and Teams.

    *

    Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills

    *

    Experience managing VOR situations and prioritising urgent repairs

    *

    Experience dealing directly with customers or clients

    *

    Good organisational and communication skills

    *

    Ability to balance hands-on engineering with service coordination

    *

    Experience managing maintenance contracts or service agreements

    Qualifications

    *

    NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)

    *

    Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
