How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Graduate Powertrain Systems Engineer
    Derby area, Derbyshire
    £35-45k + benefits

This role is open to graduate or junior engineers that have demonstrable experience of powertrain engineering gained within formula student, a relevant internship or significant academic project (e.g. thesis). Preference would be given to those with relevant industry experience gained post-academia.

This experience should involve first-hand internal combustion engine (ICE) design, development, test or calibration.

NOTE: This company cannot provide work visa sponsorship for this role.

As a powertrain systems engineer you will work within a multiskilled team involved with bringing next generation ICE systems from concept to production. Working at systems level, you will develop product requirements and systems specifications for specific engine subsystems, supporting their development through all phases of the V-cycle (concept, to validation and into production).

This will involve working collaboratively with component design and analysis, development and test teams.

    Required: Graduate Powertrain Systems Engineer

A relevant bachelors or masters degree (e.g. automotive engineering) with specific engine modules. In addition, demonstrable experience of powertrain engineering experience gained within formula student, a relevant internship or significant academic project (e.g. thesis).

First-hand practical experience with ICEs would be expected (e.g. build, test, development, calibration) gained either within industry, academia or during personal projects.

Experience with the design, development or test of base engine components and systems (e.g. fuel, air intake, valvetrain, etc).

Demonstrable interest or experience in automotive combustion engines (hydrogen / ICE / hybrid)

An appreciation of some of the following; product specifications, product requirements, analysis, test / validation procedures, FMEA, 8D, and / or DVP processes.

The positions are open to junior automotive engineers with a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to a broad range of complex engineering problems.
In this role, you will be responsible for systems design of complex mechanical systems for use in high-volume applications (such as automotive engines – diesel, hybrid and new hydrogen technology). Note: This is not a detailed level CAD design role.
You will need to have a strong understanding of engineering principles and be able to design components to meet specific requirements.

Location: This Graduate Powertrain Systems Engineer opening is onsite and is located within an hour of Derby, Burton-upon-Trent, Uttoxeter, Lichfield, Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Nottingham, Leicester, Tamworth and Loughborough
