How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services / Mechanical Contracting)
    Hybrid (Office & Work from Home) – [Birmingham]
    Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum + Car Allowance + Bonus Scheme + Hybrid
    Client
    My client is a well-established and highly respected mechanical contractor with a long-standing reputation for delivering excellence in the building services industry. Known for their collaborative approach and technical expertise, they specialise in large-scale commercial projects across the UK.
    The Role
    I am seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team and play a key role in the design and delivery of complex mechanical building services systems. You will be involved in projects from initial concept through to completion, working closely with internal teams, clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure the highest standards of engineering design and coordination.
    Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Design Engineer
    *
    Lead the mechanical design process on major commercial projects
    *
    Produce detailed design calculations, technical specifications, and drawings
    *
    Coordinate designs with other disciplines, consultants, and subcontractors
    *
    Attend client meetings, design workshops, and site visits as required
    *
    Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and sustainability goals
    *
    Support and mentor junior engineers within the design team
    *
    Assist with value engineering, project planning, and cost control
    *
    Liaise with project delivery teams to ensure successful implementation
    Requirements
    *
    Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design within the building services industry
    *
    Proven experience delivering large-scale commercial projects
    *
    Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards
    *
    Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD
    *
    Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
