Position Purpose:
- Operate as part of a central shift-based team providing artwork, reprographics, and pre-press functions to multiple packaging production sites.
- Completion of tasks in accordance with client briefs, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production schedules, always ensuring the highest quality standards.
- Accurate file management, digital artwork generation and manipulation, efficient organisation of plate production files and effective liaison with relevant stakeholders.
Job Functions
- Assessment of 1st stage artworks using online approval systems and advising relevant stakeholders of any issues.
- Pre-flighting of supplied final artwork files to ensure they meet brand guidelines, technical specifications and requirements for optimum production.
- Preparation of accurate 1up press-ready artwork files for packaging including applicable reprographic specifications and producing PDF proofs for approval.
- Utilising automated workflow processes to create and process files.
- Checking customer proofs and producing in-house GMG proofs for production.
- Stepping & repeating artworks to production layouts and preparing plate files in-line with production schedules.
- Performing quality checks to ensure the highest quality standards at all stages.
- Supporting the preparation of varnish blankets for production.
- Monitoring the GMG proofing system to ensure it remains functional and calibrated.
- Liaising with stakeholders at all levels including CTP operators and press room staff across multiple sites.
- Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of customer guidelines, departmental SOPs and Health & Safety practices and always following them.
- Working closely with project and traffic management on final delivery requirements.
- Ensuring the work environment, both digital and physical, is kept organised and tidy.
- Covering absenteeism and annual leave when required to ensure consistent service.
- Assisting in reporting and solving any IT issues the department might have.
- Staying up to date with all relevant software.
- Undertaking any reasonable request as directed by your line manager.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent working knowledge of artwork, reprographics and pre-press processes and associated software including Artpro/Artpro+ and Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
- Accuracy of work and attention to detail is critical.
- Good understanding of Offset Litho print production and technical finishing processes and limitations for packaging.
- Knowledge and experience of workflow systems (Esko WebCenter/Automation Engine) and processes.
- An understanding of technical design processes used within the printed packaging industry (cutter profiles, varnish blankets etc).
- Technical assessment of artwork files to ensure they meet correct specifications for successful production.
- Ability to monitor schedules to ensure tasks are completed is suitable timeframe and advising of any issues likely to impact the production plan.
