    LUX is an exciting start-up daring to disrupt existing industry norms and take the lead in revolutionising the approach to Liquid Hydrogen. We are based in Oxfordshire, the centre of Cryogenics R&D in the UK, ideally located for developing our unique Clean liquid Hydrogen technology. LUX is currently developing the technology to ultimately supply our customers with Clean liquid Hydrogen on-site-on-demand.

    Role

    As an Accounts Assistant, you will be a key member of the finance function at LUX — a fast-growing, innovative start-up in Oxfordshire revolutionising liquid hydrogen technology. You will manage day-to-day accounting tasks including bank reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments, while supporting month-end processes such as VAT preparation and management accounts. You will handle the full purchase-to-pay cycle — raising purchase orders, processing supplier invoices, managing payment runs, and resolving queries — alongside supporting payroll and maintaining accurate records within Xero. Working closely with both internal teams and the company's external accounting firm, you will also provide broader financial administration support, ensuring LUX's finances are accurate, up to date, and ready to support its ambitious growth plans.


    Responsibilities


    Accounting

    • Performing bank reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies
    • Making journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations
    • Maintaining and updating financial records within the accounting system
    • Liaising and supporting the company’s accounting firm on required tasks
    • Performing and supporting month-end and end of quarter processes, such as VAT preparation, management accounts and financial preparation for grant funding claims


    Payments & Invoicing

    • Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices including associated reconciliations in a timely manner
    • Resolve invoice queries with suppliers and internally
    • Prepare and process supplier payment runs in line with agreed payment terms, send out remittances
    • Creating and maintaining supplier ledger and payment terms
    • Supporting and running payroll activities 


    Purchasing

    • Raising purchase orders and creating bills
    • Managing sales and purchase ledger activities
    • Monitor and manage the purchase inbox
    • Maintaining and setting up trade and credit accounts with suppliers
    • Maintain accurate supplier account records and set up new suppliers
    • Liaising with customers and suppliers to resolve queries
    • Handling supplier queries over the phone and via email
    • Creating and maintaining user profiles in accounting software for subcontractors and suppliers


    General

    • Carry out general financial administration and ad-hoc tasks as needed
    • Collaborating with internal team members to ensure financial accuracy
    • Providing general administrative support
    • Scanning, printing, emails, queries
    • Support with ad-hoc reporting for senior management
    • Ensure insurances are up to date
    • Supporting Goods in/Out documentation and administration


    Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    • Previous experience in an accounts/financial assistant role is essential
    • Experience using Microsoft applications, especially Excel
    • Experience with Xero Accounting Software (highly desired but not essential)
    • Great understanding of accounting principles and VAT
    • Relevant accounting & financial qualifications are not essential for this role, however they are beneficial
    • Note this role is in-office and no work from home is offered; at LUX we believe in communicating and working as a team in-person, not online, this develops connection, streamlines working relationships and is essential to build and maintain the right culture

    • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
    • Excellent organisational, administrative and time-management skills, and able to work under pressure
    • Self-motivated, work independently and within a team, meeting strict deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a proactive approach
    • Ability to deal with suppliers independently and professionally
