How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Secondary Teacher

    Stoke-on-Trent | Full-Time / Part-Time | Supply & Long-Term Opportunities

    Pay: £140–£230 per day (DOE)
    Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm

    About the Opportunity

    Astro Education is currently recruiting Secondary Teachers to support schools across Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas, including Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, Fenton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Kidsgrove and Stoke.

    We are working closely with a number of secondary schools looking for reliable and enthusiastic teachers to provide both day-to-day supply and long-term cover across a range of subjects.

    Supply teaching offers a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in different schools, maintain flexibility, and achieve a better work-life balance, while still making a meaningful impact in the classroom.

    Whether you are an experienced teacher, Early Career Teacher (ECT), or returning to teaching after a break, we would love to hear from you.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Deliver engaging and effective lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

    * Follow lesson plans and ensure continuity of learning during staff absences

    * Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment

    * Support students of varying abilities to achieve their potential

    * Work collaboratively with school staff and follow safeguarding procedures

    Requirements

    * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or equivalent

    * Experience teaching within a secondary school setting

    * Strong classroom management skills

    * Excellent communication and organisational abilities

    * A passion for education and supporting young people

    * Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

    * Eligibility to work in the UK
