    Job description

    SEN Teacher

    Salary: Competitive / dependent on experience
    Contract: Full Time, Permanent
    Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:15pm (Term Time Only)
    Reporting to: Headteacher

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher to join a specialist SEN school. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching that supports the academic progress, personal development, and wellbeing of pupils with special educational needs.

    You will create a positive and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel supported, motivated, and able to reach their full potential. The role requires strong classroom practice, the ability to adapt teaching to individual needs, and a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEN.

    Adapt teaching strategies to support a wide range of learning needs and abilities.

    Assess, track, and report on pupil progress in line with school policies.

    Use assessment outcomes to inform future planning and support pupil development.

    Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment.

    Contribute to curriculum planning and development.

    Collaboration and Communication

    Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff to provide the best outcomes for pupils.

    Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress and wellbeing.

    Contribute to the wider life of the school including events, activities, and meetings.

    Professional Responsibilities

    Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

    Reflect on teaching practice and engage with ongoing professional learning.

    Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, behaviour, and health and safety.

    Safeguarding

    The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and comply with safeguarding guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

    Honours degree or equivalent

    Experience

    Experience delivering high-quality teaching.

    Experience assessing and monitoring pupil progress.

    Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.

    Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and families.

    Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs is desirable.

    Skills and Knowledge

    Strong understanding of curriculum and assessment frameworks.

    Ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons.

    Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs.

    Commitment to continuous professional development.

    Passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.

    Commitment to achieving the best outcomes for all learners.

    Strong organisational and time-management skills.
