    About the Opportunity

A well-established advanced manufacturing organisation within the aerospace and precision engineering sector is seeking a Metrology / CMM Engineer to play a key role in improving measurement capability across its operations.

This is a high-impact position focused on optimising CMM processes, improving inspection efficiency, and standardising metrology practices across multiple sites. The role offers the opportunity to influence group-wide engineering strategy, introduce modern metrology techniques, and help drive continuous improvement in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

If you enjoy combining hands-on CMM expertise with process improvement and technical leadership, this role provides a strong platform to shape how measurement systems are implemented across a growing organisation.

    The Role

    Key Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and improve existing CMM programming, inspection strategies, and measurement methodologies
    • Conduct site reviews and gap analysis to identify opportunities for improvement across multiple facilities
    • Develop and implement a group-wide metrology and CMM strategy
    • Standardise programming practices, inspection plans, and measurement frequencies
    • Improve efficiency by optimising CMM cycles, probing strategies, and fixturing
    • Introduce automation and offline programming techniques to increase throughput
    • Support quality reporting including FAIRs, capability studies, and SPC
    • Provide technical leadership and training for CMM programmers and inspectors
    • Work closely with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Operations teams
    • Support customer audits and technical queries related to measurement
    • Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) ensuring robust measurement strategies are implemented

    What They’re Looking For

    Experience & Skills

    • Experience working as a CMM Programmer or Metrology Engineer in aerospace or precision engineering
    • Strong proficiency with CMM programming software (particularly PC-DMIS)
    • Solid understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerances, and complex geometries
    • Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC, and capability studies
    • Knowledge of probing systems, fixturing, and inspection methodologies
    • Exposure to automated inspection systems, laser scanning, CT, or non-contact metrology is beneficial
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices

    Qualifications

    • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
    • CMM or metrology-related certifications are advantageous

    • Location: Derby, UK
