Role: Procurement Buyer
Location: Huntingdon, Cambridge
Salary Banding: £28,000 - £35,000
This role would also suit you if you have held a role within purchasing or procurement as a Purchasing Controller or Buyer.
Job Purpose:
Provide support to the commercial and operations teams by sourcing, planning and expediting goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company’s operational needs are met.
Managing suppliers considering price, quality, and delivery ensuring continuity supply.
Key responsibilities
1. Be responsible for managing supply chain partners in relation to BoM and indirect suppliers and service providers.
2. Process customer BoM’s onto internal systems, liaising with suppliers for pricing, lead-time and highlight any supply issues (obsolescence, sole source etc..) to support Sales quotation process.
3. On Sales Order receipt, proceed to place POs based on quoted (budgeted) prices, quality and lead-times, ensuring within budget and lead-time, highlight any supply issues.
4. Be responsible for producing and updating order status reports/trackers and due dates
5. Maintain accurate records of all orders and supplier details on MRP.
6. Attend Production and NPI Contract Review meetings, providing support to teams.
7. Develop close relationships with internal contacts on materials and SC matters.
8. Supplier performance, hold regular reviews with key suppliers, propose improvements, this includes performance, cost down initiatives and contract terms.
9. Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers where necessary.
10. Work closely with Stores on Stock Management and Reduction plans.
11. Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
12. Develop ideas, strategies and plans to improve operational efficiency, costs and business performance.
13. Maintain a professional and consistent approach with external partners.
14. Respond flexibly to any request that may reasonably be made by management. Such requests will be within the competence and/ or scope of the jobholder.
Person Specification:
1. Experience of working within purchasing for a minimum of 3 years.
2. Essential: Purchasing experience within an electronics / light engineering / technical manufacturing environment.
3. Preferred: Experience purchasing electronic components / PCB's is desirable.
4. Strong communication and negotiation skills.
5. Excellent IT skills including Intermediate Excel skills (V Lookup, pivot tables).
6. Essential: Previous experience with MRP / ERP systems.
7. Essential: Attention to detail.
8. Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage own workload.
9. Ability to work well on own initiative, as part of team in a fast-paced environment.
10. Strong problem-solving skills.
11. Ability to assist and train other team members and be trained.
12. Willingness to support the business by working within other departments if required.
