    Job description

    Employment Lawyer - 1–6 PQE - London

A leading international law firm in London is seeking a 1–6 PQE Employment Law Associate to join its well-established and highly regarded employment practice. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a dynamic team recognised for its technical excellence, commercial insight, and ability to advise leading domestic and multinational clients on a broad spectrum of employment matters. The role offers exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work, allowing associates to develop a truly well-rounded employment law practice while working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The London employment team operates as part of a global platform, providing seamless access to expertise across multiple jurisdictions. The group advises on strategically important employment issues affecting complex organisations, offering an ideal platform for associates to develop both litigation and advisory skills while working on high-profile, market-leading matters.

    Team Structure and Culture

The London employment team is structured to provide a balance of senior guidance and early responsibility for associates. Lawyers are encouraged to take ownership of their work, engage directly with clients, and contribute to the management of disputes and advisory matters.

The team has a reputation for being approachable, supportive, and professional. Mentorship and knowledge-sharing are key priorities, creating an environment where associates can develop their technical skills, commercial judgment, and confidence in client interactions. The culture emphasises collaboration and intellectual curiosity, allowing lawyers to thrive in a busy but collegial environment.

Associates benefit from exposure to a diverse range of work and the opportunity to build strong working relationships with senior colleagues, clients, and international counterparts. This combination of responsibility, mentorship, and collaboration makes the team highly attractive for ambitious employment lawyers.

    Scope of Work

This role offers broad exposure across employment law, spanning both litigation and advisory matters:

    • Employment litigation and tribunal work, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, restrictive covenants, and contractual disputes
    • International and multi-jurisdictional employment disputes, advising clients with complex global workforces
    • Regulatory employment matters, including investigations and enforcement issues
    • Non-contentious employment advisory, including drafting employment contracts, policies, and guidance for workforce planning, restructurings, and redundancies
    • Advising on strategic HR and organisational issues, providing practical and commercial solutions for senior management

Associates are involved in research, drafting advice and tribunal submissions, managing case preparation, and liaising directly with clients and other advisors. The work frequently involves high-profile, complex matters, offering a unique opportunity to build expertise across both contentious and advisory employment law.

    Candidate Profile

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Be qualified in England & Wales
    • Have 1–6 PQE, with demonstrable experience in employment litigation, tribunal work, or advisory employment matters
    • Be capable of managing a mix of contentious and non-contentious work
    • Possess excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills
    • Be a strong team player with a collaborative approach and professional maturity

Candidates with experience in multi-jurisdictional matters, complex litigation, or strategic HR advisory projects will be particularly well suited. The firm values candidates who are proactive, intellectually curious, and able to thrive in a busy, high-quality practice.

    Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This position offers an exceptional chance to develop a broad, high-quality employment law practice within a globally recognised firm. Key advantages include:

    • Exposure to complex, high-profile disputes as well as strategic advisory matters
    • Opportunities to work on cross-border, multi-jurisdictional matters for leading clients
    • A supportive team culture focused on mentorship, professional development, and collaboration
    • Significant responsibility early in your career, allowing for rapid skill development
    • A well-rounded experience across litigation, regulatory, and advisory employment work

Associates joining the team will gain insight into the full lifecycle of employment law matters, from disputes to strategic advisory, building both technical expertise and commercial acumen. The firm encourages lawyers to take initiative, develop judgment, and make meaningful contributions to high-value matters while benefiting from a collegial and collaborative environment.

For ambitious employment lawyers seeking challenging, intellectually stimulating, and career-enhancing work, this role provides both professional growth and long-term opportunities in a supportive, high-performing team.
