Technical Author (Software / Insurance Platform)

We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to take ownership of all technical and user-facing documentation
This is a client-facing role suited to someone who can confidently translate complex insurance processes and system functionality into clear, structured, high-quality documentation and training materials.
You’ll work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Testers and Clients, playing a key role in ensuring our product documentation is accurate, consistent and aligned with industry standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Creating and maintaining system documentation including configuration guides, release notes, interface specifications and technical manuals
- Producing user training materials such as step-by-step guides, process walkthroughs, onboarding packs and e-learning content
- Documenting business and system workflows, functional behaviour and data mappings in collaboration with Business Analysts
- Translating complex technical and insurance concepts into accessible content for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ensuring all new features, enhancements and fixes are fully documented prior to release
- Managing version control and maintaining documentation governance standards
- Developing templates and structured documentation standards to improve consistency
- Supporting release management with clear, concise upgrade and release documentation
- Maintaining an organised and up-to-date documentation repository
Knowledge & Experience Required
- Proven experience in technical writing for software products
- Previous experience working for a software vendor (preferred)
- Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Strong grasp of documentation best practices and structured authoring
- Familiarity with documentation/help authoring tools such as MadCap, ClickHelp, Trainual or similar
- Understanding of the insurance lifecycle (quote, bind, issue, endorsements, renewals, claims)
- Knowledge of policy administration systems and insurance workflows
