    Job description

    About the Role

We are seeking an experienced R&D Technical Lead to play a key role in delivering innovative, high-quality products from concept through to production. As one of several Technical Leads within the R&D function, you will provide technical authority and leadership across multi-disciplinary product development projects, with a strong focus on mechanical design and advanced CAD.

Importantly, we are looking for more than someone who can simply execute a brief. We need a creative and forward-thinking engineer who can imagine and develop solutions that do not yet exist - someone who thrives on innovation and is motivated by building the next generation of products, not just refining the current one.

As we move into higher-value, higher-complexity instruments, this role will be central to shaping technically advanced systems. Experience designing complex mechanical devices that form part of wider integrated systems - incorporating areas such as communications, optics, robotics, micromotors, AI, or similar advanced technologies - will be highly desirable.

    About the Company

We are an innovation-led company designing and manufacturing high-quality electro-mechanical products used by customers worldwide. Our work supports industries where precision, performance, and reliability matter. As we continue to grow, we’re investing in new technologies, strengthening our development processes, and expanding our product portfolio. It’s an exciting time to join us and contribute to a collaborative, fast-moving, and purpose-driven environment.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead mechanical design excellence using advanced CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
    • Own technical delivery of NPD projects – from early concept to production handover
    • Translate open-ended challenges into innovative, practical engineering solutions
    • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test teams
    • Drive innovation, risk management, and best-practice engineering
    • Act as the key interface between R&D and Production Engineering
    • Mentor engineers and influence product and technology direction

    What We’re Looking For

    • Degree-qualified Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer (or equivalent experience)
    • Proven experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects
    • Strong mechanical design background with complex assemblies
    • Experience developing complex mechanical products within wider integrated systems (e.g., comms, optics, robotics, micromotors, AI or similar technologies desirable)
    • Excellent CAD capability and structured engineering approach (DFMEA, design reviews, etc.)
    • Comfortable working in fast-moving, commercial R&D environments
    • Collaborative leader with strong technical judgement
    • A creative problem-solver who challenges assumptions and drives innovation

    Why Join Us?

    • Work on innovative, technically challenging products
    • High ownership and real influence on design decisions
    • Collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering culture

    Accessibility:

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the application process, please let us know how we can support you.
