SEMH Teaching Assistant
A specialist SEMH provision in Liverpool is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor to support students in KS1 / KS2. This is a full‑time role working with young people who present with challenging behaviour, emotional needs, and barriers to learning. This post is a temp to perm opportunity and is to begin as soon possible.
About the Role
You’ll play a key part in helping students regulate, re-engage, and succeed in a structured but nurturing environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building trust, staying calm under pressure, and using proactive strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for SEMH students
- Using de‑escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
- Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive routines
- Building strong, consistent relationships with students
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies
- Helping create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in SEMH, mentoring, or behaviour support
- Strong de‑escalation skills and a calm, confident approach
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour with consistency and empathy
- Resilience, patience, and a genuine commitment to young people
- A team player who can communicate clearly and professionally
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
