    Job description

Are you a brilliant claimant-focused qualified employment lawyer with a sense of humour, super high work standards and fantastic client care skills?

This is a legal job like you have never seen before…

    • Do you miss the chance to take your kids to school, put them to bed, or attend school assemblies?
    • Do you feel like you spend more time with your colleagues than with your family?
    • Did you kiss your quality of life goodbye a while ago?
    • Are you fed up of travelling to the office every day just to go to virtual meetings?
    • Do you feel trapped in your job by the traditional “career progression” journey?

It doesn't have to be like this!

At Rebel Law we stand for something different. Something rebellious in the industry:

    • People over profits!

A previous candidate called this a “Unicorn Job”!

Do you yearn to leave the rat race of:

    • Commuting
    • Billable hours
    • Ridiculous fee targets
    • Office politics
    • Corporate culture
    • Watercooler nonsense
    • Hamster wheeling
    • Partner pleasing?

We offer a new way of being a lawyer:

    • One that puts clients first, with a heckload of job satisfaction for you
    • Genuine flexibility, not lip service. So long as the work is done, done well and clients are happy, all is good
    • Mostly fixed fees so no clock watching
    • No bureaucracy or unnecessary admin
    • A tight knit supportive team
    • Tailored fees to client affordability
    • Fully remote working
    • Full or part time.
    •  We do not run high caseloads - we focus on quality of work for our clients and quality of life for you

We offer really interesting and worthy work for lovely clients, an amazingly brilliant and supportive community of like-minded colleagues to collaborate with, bounce ideas off, and generally help to avoid home-working isolation.

We get together twice a year for a team social, we have exciting marketing initiatives, mentoring and collaboration opportunities.

We welcome Solicitors, Chartered Legal Executives, or Barristers - providing you have sufficient expertise and experience practising employment law and handling cases in the Employment Tribunal in England and Wales.

    The role involves:

    • Running your own cases competently without micromanagement within a supportive environment
    • Managing and resolving workplace disputes
    • Managing complex employment tribunal cases
    • Providing a caring and responsive service to clients with disabilities
    • Representing clients in discrimination, redundancy and unfair dismissal matters
    • A varied caseload of claimant and respondent contentious matters
    • Managing terminations of senior professionals
    • Drafting employment contracts policies and procedures
    • Advising small businesses and providing HR support
    • Negotiating settlement agreement terms
    • Drafting and advising on settlement agreements
    • Advising on restrictive covenants and confidentiality terms
    • Advocacy

    You will have experience in:

    • Advising and representing clients in discrimination, redundancy and unfair dismissal matters
    • Drafting, negotiating and advising on settlement agreements
    • Resolving workplace disputes
    • Managing employment tribunal cases
    • Catering to a wide range of different types of client
    • Contentious claimant work

    You will:

    • Provide exemplary client service and outstanding quality of work
    • Be happy, self-disciplined, and organised to work effectively and efficiently from home
    • Have a suitable, confidential and safe workspace at home to use
    • Be diligent, honest and meticulous
    • Enjoy networking and blogging, building referral relationships and using social media for business development (or be willing to learn).
    • Have excellent IT skills and be tech savvy
    • Know the difference between a duck-billed platypus and an echidna
    • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and a go-getting attitude
    • Have an ambition to continuously grow and learn

    You will also:

    • Be a good listener and a demon negotiator
    • Be a decent compassionate human being who wants to right the wrongs in the world
    • Be committed to equality and equity
    • Have a genuine passion for helping people
    • Care deeply about justice and fairness
    • Be resilient, pragmatic, and full of common sense
    • Have a wicked sense of humour, possibly be a bit sweary, slightly rebellious and very real

Even better if you have an interesting life story or unusual career history - we really love lawyers who don't fit that crusty old mould of how people think we should be.

If this sounds interesting, and you are a quirky fabulous person who sets very high standards for yourself and wants more autonomy, time to yourself and flexibility than you've ever had working for a law firm before, then let's have a chat and see if we gel.

    The practical stuff:

    • The basic salary range is £40K to £60K depending on experience, plus employer pension contribution
    • You can earn commission on top
    • If you are more experienced and established in your career, come with a following or solid referral network and a billing history and have a realistic business plan for generating income, then we can consider a higher salary range than that stated
    • Benefits include a healthcare package with 24/7 online private GP, online Physio service, online fitness classes, wellness support, up to 8 sessions of therapy/counselling, eye screening, legal and debt helpline, free will writing, life and career coaching, and discounted gym membership, retail and fuel cards. For you and your family.
    • Free eye testing and annual flu jab (if you want those)
    • You can be based anywhere in the UK that has good reliable Internet coverage
