Deputy MLRO (Remote)

A high growth payments and fintech business is looking to appoint a Deputy MLRO at an exciting point in its international expansion.
This is a broad, commercially exposed DMLRO position within a regulated payments environment. The role sits at group level, working closely with the Head of Compliance and MLRO, and will have visibility across multiple jurisdictions as the business continues to scale across the UK and EU.
You will sit at the heart of the financial crime control framework, bringing together data and insight from across the business to produce clear, decision-ready management information. This role goes beyond compiling reports. You will interpret trends, assess emerging risks, develop a well-formed view of individual clients and programmes, and translate that insight into practical, trackable action plans that strengthen the overall control environment.
As new licences are secured in additional territories, this role will play a key part in ensuring a consistent, centralised oversight model while supporting local regulatory expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously enhance AML and financial crime risk assessments.
- Produce high quality MI and analytical reporting for senior leadership and Boards, translating complex data into clear risk insights
- Pull together information from onboarding, transaction monitoring, fraud metrics, SARs and audit findings to create a holistic risk view
- Support the MLRO with SAR reviews and regulatory reporting where required
- Conduct assurance reviews across the team and partners.
- Review high risk customers, PEP, sanctions and adverse media alerts
- Contribute to reporting on transactional risk exposure and broader portfolio analysis
- Support policy development and ongoing control enhancements
- Assist with regulatory licence applications and ongoing supervisory engagement in multiple jurisdictions
- Help design and deliver AML and financial crime training
- Support remediation actions arising from internal and external audits
What we are looking for
- Previous experience within Financial Crime and Compliance, ideally within fintech or payments
- Strong analytical capability with demonstrable experience producing and presenting MI to senior stakeholders
- Exposure across AML, CTF, sanctions and broader regulatory risk
- Knowledge of the UK EMI regulatory framework, Crypto related AML risk and familiarity with EU requirements i.e MiCA
